Autoimmune Diseases and Cannabis Part 7 – Ulcerative Colitis
In the 7th installment of this 10-part series, we take an in-depth look at utilizing cannabinoid therapies for a very prevalent autoimmune and inflammatory bowel disease— Ulcerative Colitis. While the exact cause of this autoimmune disease is unknown like with other ADs, it is suspected that immune abnormalities are to blame. Estimates suggest that there are roughly 1 million Americans living with Ulcerative Colitis, a condition that is characterized by inflammation and ulcers within the colon and rectum. Statistics show that there is higher prevalence of cannabis use amongst patients that have been diagnosed with UC in comparison to the general population and this may be for a great reason. Research thus far shows that short-term treatment with THC rich therapies as well as those that include low doses of THC in conjunction with CBD are proving to have great efficiency in relieving various symptoms suffered by Ulcerative Colitis patients. Check out this article to learn more about how cannabinoid therapies may help those living with UC.
